Race Rules

- •Use of themed costumes or pajamas for all team members is highly encouraged. Appropriate attire required. NO bare feet, floppy slippers or flip flops.
- •All teams may be named and their name displayed so that it may be visible to the audience.
- •Silliness, outlandishness, sponsored and/or socially relevant bed/team decorating themes are ENCOURAGED!
- The bed does not need to be an original bed but should mimic a sleeping space, needs to have at least four (4) wheels which are arranged so as to make it safe. The bed cannot have propulsion or brakes; only human power is allowed. Beds must be pushed, not pulled. The bed should accommodate a standard twin size mattress (may be provided by race organizers; please ask) or have an equivalent minimal entry weight of 50 pounds. No cribs, cots, coffins, etc.
- The race will be run at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1831 Deyerle Road, Roanoke, Virginia. Only one bed will race at a time.
- Each member must be at least 16 years old and MUST sign the liability waiver.
- All beds may be decorated (Prize for best overall design/theme).
- Each race will consist of one bed racing against the clock.
- Each team with make one timed lap of the course, then return to the holding area. After all the teams have run, each team will make a second timed lap. Determination of the fastest team will be based on an average of these two times.
- One person must ride on the bed at all times during the race and must sit or lie flat.
- All bed and team costs are borne by entrants. This includes entry fee.
- Since the entry fee is going to a non-profit organization, this cost may be tax deductible.
- All beds must report for inspection prior to racing; failure to report for inspection or failure to meet the rules & regulations set forth will result in disqualification and forfeiture of entry fee.
- Teams must not interfere with opponents in any way during the race and must conduct themselves according to the highest standards of sportsmanship
- The use of helmets and other protective gear is strongly encouraged for all team members; sturdy footwear is required.
- All team members must cross the finish line with their bed (finish time determined by the end of the bed passing the finish line).
- All decisions made by Race Officials are final.
